Frequent Questions and Concerns

  • Birth tourism is the practice of traveling to another country specifically to give birth, with the intention of securing citizenship for the child based on the principle of jus soli, or “right of the soil.” This approach allows children born in these countries to automatically acquire citizenship, which can provide them (and often their parents) with numerous advantages throughout their lives. Birth tourism can serve as a viable pathway for families seeking a brighter future for their children and themselves as it is the best way to diversify one’s citizenships and expand access to global benefits.
  • Yes! Birth tourism is a legal and positive process that secures a safer future for the child and in many cases the parents too. Local communities also benefit.
  • Citizenship and Benefits: Children born through birth tourism gain citizenship in an additional country that may offer better economic, entrepreneurial, tax, and healthcare opportunities compared to their parents’ home countries.
  • Dual Citizenship: Many parents seek to provide their children with dual citizenship, which can facilitate easier travel and work opportunities globally. This expanded mobility can open doors for future educational and professional pursuits.
  • The financial contributions from birth tourists can help improve healthcare infrastructure in host countries, benefiting both locals and visitors alike.
  • Families engaging in birth tourism may establish ties that lead to future educational or business opportunities, enriching both their lives and those of the host community.
  • Birth abroad refers to the event of childbirth occurring in a country that is not the parents’ country of residency or citizenship. When approached correctly, giving birth abroad can provide the child with an opportunity to obtain citizenship in the country where they are born. This is a legal process in many countries, particularly in Latin America.
  • Absolutely not! Birth tourism, when done legally and transparently, is a strategic decision that offers lifelong advantages for your child and even the parents. While some may not fully understand it, this practice is entirely lawful in many countries and is embraced as part of their legal framework. Chances are other parents will look up to you for having thought so deliberately about giving your child the best start in life.
  • Some people may misunderstand birth tourism because they assume it is done through fraudulent means. However, when done legally, transparently, and with full compliance, there is nothing unethical about it. In fact, it aligns with immigration laws in these countries, which were created to encourage global connections.
  • Most nations offering birthright citizenship have kept these policies because they see the value in it—they want more global citizens who have strong ties to their country.
  • By choosing a legal path, securing visas properly, and following all regulations, birth tourism is not only accepted but encouraged by these nations’ laws.
  • Choosing birth tourism legally is a brilliant, forward-thinking decision that creates lifelong benefits for your child and even for your family. The ability to live, work, and travel freely with dual citizenship opens doors that many people spend decades trying to unlock. Far from being frowned upon, birth tourism—when done correctly and ethically—is a smart investment in your child’s future global mobility, security, and opportunity. Wouldn’t you agree that giving your child the best possible start in life is a really smart decision that one can be proud of? 😊 Based on our experience, local people actually welcome the idea and feel a lot of pride around being the “chosen” country.
  • The term “anchor baby” is a controversial and politically charged phrase. It is used in cases involving illegal border crossings by parents who try to force their right to stay in the country where their child is born. It comes with the implication that the child’s citizenship could later help the parents, who entered the country illegally, gain legal residency or citizenship. We do not support or encourage this.
  • Yes, healthcare in Latin American countries is not only safe but also world-class in many places. In fact, many private hospitals and clinics across the region meet or exceed global healthcare standards, offering top-tier medical services at a fraction of the cost compared to North America and Europe.
  • World-Class Private Hospitals & Clinics

  • Many Latin American countries have internationally accredited hospitals with state-of-the-art facilities. Countries like Mexico, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina have medical centers that routinely cater to international patients and are staffed with highly trained professionals, many of whom have studied or worked in the U.S. or Europe.

  • Many hospitals invest in cutting-edge medical technology comparable to the best hospitals in the U.S. and Europe.

  • Many Latin American doctors receive training in top medical institutions worldwide and are fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, making healthcare easily accessible for international patients.

  • Excellent Healthcare for Expats & Locals

  • Many countries in Latin America consistently rank among the best for healthcare quality and affordability in expat surveys.

  • Shorter Wait Times: Private hospitals often offer same-day or next-day specialist appointments, unlike in many developed countries.

  • Low Costs Without Sacrificing Quality: A major medical procedure can cost 50-70% less than in the U.S., without compromising quality.

  • For expats and digital nomads, private health insurance is affordable, granting access to top-tier healthcare facilities with short wait times. Many Latin American countries offer expat-friendly health insurance that allows foreigners to receive excellent care for a fraction of U.S. healthcare costs.

  • The best country to give birth in depends entirely on your preferences. All countries that we offer are great options in terms of safety for the mom, baby and family. So the choice can be focused on the desired benefits based on what the various countries offer. We can help make this decision based on citizenship of the parents, global mobility needs, and long-term preferences.
  • This varies by country. In most countries it is indeed optional and easy to communicate the parents wishes. Of all options, Argentina is currently the strictest, but even here we can discuss options, establish the requirements and ensure the parent’s wishes are respected.
  • One of the greatest gifts you can give your child is dual citizenship from birth. This:
    • Provides immediate access to the country’s benefits, including education, healthcare, and job opportunities.
    • Eliminates the need for future visas—your child can live, work, and study freely in that country.
    • Offers a strong passport, granting easier travel access to many countries worldwide.

  • It is a backup plan for uncertain times
    • In an unpredictable world, having a second citizenship is a safety net. Your child will always have the right to return and reside in the birth country, no matter the global situation. This ensures:
    • Greater geopolitical security—if instability arises in one country, they have another home.
    • Access to stable financial systems for banking, business, and investment.
    • More legal and tax options for the future, depending on where they decide to live.

  • It also offers parental benefits and expands your own opportunities. Many people don’t realize that birth tourism can also benefit parents! In several countries, having a child born there may grant parents residency or even citizenship over time. This means that birth tourism isn’t just about the child—it can open doors for the entire family to a new country and better or different opportunities. Examples include:
    • Brazil: Parents of a citizen child can apply for permanent residency more easily and acquire citizenship after only 1 year of living in Brazil
    • Argentina: Parents of a child born in Argentina can apply for citizenship immediately after birth.
    • Mexico: Not just the parents can apply for residency, but also the grandparents so the entire family can stay together if needed.
  • 100%. Our clients are diverse and all have different priorities, preferences and goals. We work to determine the best available options for the child and family. We don’t have a one-size fits all approach and individually assess each family’s holistic situation from choice of birth, country, vaccination preferences, etc.
  • We have a 100% success rate. All of our newborns obtain citizenship, with 100% of their parents obtaining residency if they choose.
  • Yes! Birth tourism is not just legal but an intentional program of these governments to support strategic growth. Birth tourism is always legal when done in compliance with immigration laws, as many countries intentionally offer birthright citizenship (jus soli). Families who choose this path follow legal visa procedures and pay for their medical expenses, contributing to the host country’s economy. Birth tourism is a smart, strategic, and lawful decision that secures global opportunities for the next generation.
  • You talk to us! We are here to support your birth abroad and help you find the best option that secures the benefits that speak most to your family. It all starts with exploring your opportunities and how to secure the best future for your child and family.
  • As much as you need. We will explore your wants and needs and can propose a package ranging from no or minimal support for optimal costs all the way to “just back your bags, arrive and have your baby”. It is our priority to ensure everybody has the level of support that makes them feel comfortable.
  • No, this is not a problem! It can actually make for an entertaining immigration experience. But it is important to keep track of the visa requirements for the various citizenships in your family in case you travel. Lastly, here are some recommendations (not requirements) to ensure you are good to go, no matter what may happen:
  • Travel with the birth certificate of your child – in rare cases this can be of value as a supporting document.
  • When only one parent is traveling with the child, bring a notarized document stating that the parent is allowed to travel with the child.
